Rice Storehouses and the "Okuragamae" Area in the Nishi-no-maru Area

There used to be 6 rice storehouses for the emergency rice stock of the Owari Domain (Storehouse 1 to 6) in the Nishi-no-maru Area, and the land where these storehouses were built was called the "Okuragamae". As the "Okuragamae" stored food reserves, it was considered an important place, and it was closed off from other areas by high walls and the walls of storehouses. Entry into the area was controlled at a gate called the "Okura-gomon"

The original storehouses were demolished by the Taisho period but Storehouses 3 and 4 have been restored to look as they did when they were built (Nishinomaru Okura Museum). The locations of the other four storehouses, along with the "Okura-gomon" (only the base stones), and waterway, were determined based on excavations of the site and descriptions in historical materials, and are marked on the ground.
